A great deal has been learned about Rousseau in the past thirty years or so. Professor Ralph Leigh has produced a magisterial edition of Rousseau's letters; Rousseau's works are at last being edited in a scholarly manner; and critical studies throwing a new light on Rousseau's thought have been published by a whole new generation of Rousseau scholars on both sides of the Atlantic.
