A small troop of French actors try, without much success, to eke out a living in the walled city of Quebec during the mid-eighteenth century. The town is surrounded and under constant attack by the English and few of the locals are interested in a night of entertainment. Then the mysterious Benjamin de Saint-Ours enters their lives and the troupe's luck starts to change.
