Socrate Martinez, alias S, is the ugliest child in the world, which does not prevent him from having two friends at school. His mother enrolls him in a convention for people with "personal estimative dysfunction," in other words, a convention for ugly people. There he meets strange people including Fierritos, the ex-champion of the ugly ones, who walks around with a colander on his head. S offers him his friendship and does everything to help him. He goes so far as to drink Abaleas Orchou's potion to help his friend, to be the ugliest for a day.
