Armande is a beautiful young non-conformist French Canadian woman, who has enjoyed the refinements of Europe. She decides to return to the Tantramar in New Brunswick, to maintain the family estate and honour her obligation to the workers there. However, the locals consider her witch-like for her penchant for playing the church organ at midnight and riding alone in the moonlight.
