Summary
Commemorates the WWI battle of Vimy Ridge. On April 9, 1917, a corps of Canadian soldiers captured the strategic French ridge from the Germans. This marked the first time Canadians had fought as an independent force, not as part of the British army. The battle took the lives of 5,000 Canadian soldiers. War Amps member Perce Lemmon, who was 19 when he fought at the ridge, joins Clifford Chadderton at the Canadian War Museum to describe what it was like to be a young soldier fighting in the trenches.
