:
In February, 1918 one of the worst marine disasters in our history took place when the SS Florizel went aground near Cappahayden on the Southern Shore, killing 94 of the 138 people onboard. Iron McCarthy now 99 years old was one of the fishermen who stood on the beach of Cappahayden and watched helplessly as people were being swept to their deaths only a few hundred feet away.
