Commissioned to paint several portraits, including those of an older woman with a wartime secret, a politician with a confession to make, a discontented Frenchwomen, and her sister's fiance, artist Ella Graham comes to realize that there is much more to a person's life than what can be seen on the surface. But as she works on her paintings, she finds that she is learning as much about herself as she is her portrait subjects.
