Back in 1930, when Nellie marries James, the owner of a pottery factory, her future looks wonderful. However, moving into a different social class brings its issues. She is now the mistress of the house, where once she was a lowly maidservant, and, despite being able to help her family financially, they have their own problems in life and she can never resist interfering. But with her strength of character and talents, she will usually win the day.
