With a crick and a crack, the pretend eggs Abby found in the backyard hatch to reveal two chicks. Abby has great fun caring for and playing with the make-believe birds until one day they mysteriously stop singing and eating. Then Abby has to make a choice--one that will bring her a sense of loss but also newfound joy.
