Summary
When Henry Detweiler dies unexpectedly, he leaves his second wife and three daughters - Eleanor, Mary Ann, and Maggie - in the care of John, his oldest son from a previous marriage. John and his wife, Fanny, inherit the farm but make it clear Mrs. Detweiler and her daughters are not welcome. After the Detweiler women move to a nearby cottage, the spirited Mary Ann catches the eye of an older bachelor but is openly infatuated with a younger man set to inherit a local farm. Meanwhile, the sensible Eleanor pines, perhaps too quietly, for Fanny's brother Edwin. Will the sisters' sense and sensibility keep them from finding the love they desire?
