Now in her second year at Pearl Famous Academy of Skate and Sword, Peasprout Chen strives to reclaim her place as a champion of wu liu, the deadly and beautiful sport of martial arts figure skating. But Peasprout faces a surprising threat: Yinmei, the exiled heir to the Shinian throne and the newest student at the Academy. As Yinmei excels both academically and socially, Peasprout begins to suspect that she is not a refugee at all, but a spy. To keep her enemy close, Peasprout drafts Yinmei into her battleband, a team that executes elaborate skating configurations that are part musical spectacle, part defensive attack. When the Empress of Shin threatens to invade the city of Pearl, the academy faces growing pressure to send Peasprout back to Shin. As Peasprout guides her battleband on a mission to save her new home of Pearl, she must learn what it truly means to be a leader.
