Summary
William's Getaway is the story of William, his little brother Edgar, and the annoyances and pleasures of having a younger sibling. It is also a story about the wonder of imagination and play... Edgar loves playing with William, but William doesn't always feel the same way. Sometimes he just wants to be by himself. When that happens, the only way for William to get away from Edgar is to sneak off to his hot air balloon and float high above his house, looking down on Edgar. Edgar is usually too scared to go up in William's hot air balloon. But today, he knows he can do it, with William's help. In the end, William sacrifices the privacy of his getaway to help Edgar get to the top, through words of encouragement. It is revealed that William's air balloon is the top bunk of their shared bunk bed. This wonderful twist at the end will have readers going back to the beginning to look at all the details and find the clues.
