Summary
This novel traces the journey of Almanda SimÔeon, an orphan who will share her life with the Innu of Pekuakami. In love with a young Innu, she will succeed in being accepted. She will learn about nomadic existence and language, and will break down barriers imposed on indigenous women. Almanda and her family will face the loss of their land and endure the confinement of reservations and the violence of residential schools. Told in an intimate tone, the story of this woman, which takes place over a century, expresses the attachment to the ancestral values of the Innu and to the need for freedom that nomadic peoples still feel today.
