This summer, Elsie is finally going to confess her feelings to her longtime -- and long-distance -- crush. They may be separated by an ocean, but Elsie feels fluttery every time Ada's name pops up on her phone. Ada gets her like no one else. That is, until Joan, Elsie's childhood best friend, literally walks back ito her life. Joan, who disappeared into radio silence after moving away to Hong Kong years ago, and never replied to any of Elsie's letters or emails. Joan, who somehow slots back into Elsie's life like she never left -- and makes Elsie wonder if she's left behind a little too much of the girl she used to be. Then Ada mentions her grandmother's own long-lost pen pal (and maybe love?), a woman who once lived in a seaside town in Cornwall, only a train ride away from Elsie's Oxford home. Suddenly Elsie knows just the grand gesture to show Ada how she feels. But as her plan to reunite the two older women ignites a summer of repairing broken bonds, Elsie is torn in different directions... and starts to hope it's not too late to recover all the things she's lost.
