Summary:
"A few years ago a yawl was purchased by Princeton men as a gift to Dr. Grenfell, the well-known medical missionary. A crew was selected to sail the boat from New York to Labrador and present it to him for use in his work. This crew was made up of undergraduates, and the author was fortunate enough to be one of those who were chosen. The route selected on that trip is closely followed in this narrative, and the country is described as it impressed itself on our minds at that time. Many of the incidents and adventures related in the story are founded upon the actual experiences of the author during that cruise. They are true to life, though of necessity somewhat modified or changed in certain details. The wreck of the Spray in the story, for example, anticipated by only a year or so the actual fate that overtook the vessel.
