Amethyst returns from a summer away with a surprise: Her gem got its glow! She can now cast spells just like the rest of her friends. But when crew "leader" Ruby is upstaged by Amethyst, she gets angry and tries to cast a spell at her friend that will make her unpopular. The spell backfires against Ruby, and it is only through the best efforts of Amethyst that the unpopularity spell is stopped. Ruby can see she was wrong, and the five girls make up and renew their vow to be "Best Friends for Life."
