The three stories from the life of the tramp Knulp, a descendant of Eichendorff's good-for-nothing, are among the most charming pieces of Hermann Hesse's early prose. As a result of his works, they belong to the great cycle of his Gerbersau narratives, which tells us about life in a Swabian town at the turn of the century using the example of numerous characteristic and largely authentic individual fates.
