World War II: As part of the war effort, Vera Carter has been instructed to adapt her Cordon Bleu cooking skills to running a British Restaurant in Norfolk. This is not her only worry - the staff she's been given are all untrained, and don't always get along with each other. And Geoffrey Parkington, the man in charge, seems to have very little sense of humour. But Vera soon discovers there is more to Geoffrey Parkington than she first thought.
