Maggie Murphy is not having a great life. Her husband, Horace, has died in a motorcycle accident, and while she deals with her grief, Maggie must find a job and a new place to live. Fortunately, her Aunt Myrtle arranges for Maggie to work at a Memphis newspaper owned by a cousin. Continuing with the good news-bad news theme, Maggie finds the murdered body of a longtime columnist at the paper but gets a full-time job as a result. She might be a suspect in the murder, but before long, we can see a definite attraction between her and patrolman Joe Driver. As things develop with both the friendship and the murder case, it also becomes apparent that Horace's accident may not have been so accidental. Oh, and let's not forget that Horace's spirit seems to keep popping up as the tension escalates. By the end of the story, it is apparent that Maggie's life is more good than bad.
