In the free range days of the 1880s the big Texas hill country was thieves' territory. Bold men could make fortunes in the light of the moon by striking out with long ropes and fast horses to steal from the great cattle herds of men like John Titus. From their snake dens near Llano River, the cow thieves were protected from the law. Until John Titus gathered up an army of cowboys to bum his own brand of law into the rustler's hides -- a law of fire, guns and vengeance that would bring the Llano River to a raging boil.
