Bruce writes well-received essays about growing up in Newfoundland, life on the mainland and his experiences in the Newfoundland community in the Greater Toronto Area of Ontario. In 1988 he was part of a group of expatriates that established a newspaper called The Downhomer in Brampton. This publication is now called ‘Downhome’, a popular magazine published in St. John’s, NF. He also hosted a weekly radio show on CHIN radio called ‘The Downhome Show’, and an all-night Saturday night radio show called ‘Downhome Dance Party’. Through it all, he and partner Donna Crann operated a Newfoundland Store in Scarborough called the Newfoundland General Store. Along the way he’s picked up a ‘schooner load’ of interesting stories, both serious and humorous.
