Paul, the son of Thomas and Rosalind is a sickly, nervous child. His father despairs of him and his mother is more interested in her social life. It is decided that Paul will be brought up by his grandmother in England. There surrounded by his relations he will find the love that has always been lacking from his parents. But the day of reckoning must come in the end for Thomas expects a brilliant military career from his son and Paul must learn to stand up for what he really believes in.
