Summary:
Inspector Morse is a melancholy, enigmatic and romantic man who never uses his first name and who find solace in real ale, classical music, and difficult crosswords. Together with his able sergeant Lewis, Morse uses his considerable intellect and passion for truth and justice to investigate death and murder in the English university town of Oxford. (Cherubim & seraphim) While Morse goes on leave to explore his stepniece's suicide, Lewis probes the death of a youth killed by a train. Similarities in the cases point to possible drug use. (Deadly slumber) When the founder of a private clinic is found murdered in his car, suspicion falls on a rich bookmaker whose daughter is in a coma. (The day of the devil) Hunting for an escaped rapist, Morse and Lewis are drawn into a disturbing world of devil worship, and a bloody showdown in a quiet suburb.
