After three women are murdered by a serial killer in Boston, Detective Harry Jordan turns to New York journalist Mallory Malone for help, hoping she will run the killer's composite picture on TV. The request leads to romance, but not much cooperation. Little does Jordan realize that Malone was once raped and made pregnant by the killer.
