In early medieval England, a young boy obtains a book with blank parchment pages that contains the dark magic of Northumbria, and discovers within it spells for making gold and achieving immortality. Years later, on the point of death, he urges his servant, Sybil, and his magical talking raven, Odo, to unlock the secrets of the book, in order to save him.
