The story of a young man from a small Newfoundland outport who gets a job on a fishing schooner delivering and picking up goods locally and as far away as Portugal and Puerto Rico. He meets a girl and falls in love but the love affair ends with the girl's death and he is left to ponder as to what is next in his life.
