Anna Thompson, a widow with young children, is delighted when someone buys the long-empty home in Northumberland. But the new owner, Daniel Ferguson, is a reclusive single man with disturbing ways. Anna discovers that Daniel is convalescing from serious injuries. She comes to know and like him. They help one another, and find more than simple friendship.
