Summary:
From the preface. The growth of the Soviet Navy is readily noticeable in the growth of this book. During the seven years that separate the two English language editions of Guide to the Soviet Navy, the Soviet Union has continued to build innovative designs across the spectrum of naval ship types. She has exerted every effort to increase the quality of her combatants while maintaining adequate numbers. The two most significant products of her new construction are probably the Kiev class VTOL carrier and the logistic support ships she has built to sustain her fleets on the open sea. Each chapter of Guide to the Soviet navy deals with a distinct aspect of the Soviet Navy, and all have been rewritten to reflect the changes that have occurred since 1970. New photographs and drawings have been added to show most presently known warships and aircraft.
