It begins with the story of the first great wave of European immigration in the early 1900s and continues by describing the arrival & contributions of successive waves of immigrants, the restrictive immigration acts of the first decade, the settlement of immigrants in the west, the slump in immigration after the First World War, the growth in Canadian nationalism, the Citizenship Act of 1947, the post-war rise in immigration, the liberalization of immigration policy, the admitting of waves of refugees since the 1950s, and the trail-blazing immigration initiatives of the 1970s.
