Unpublished historical sources, and published literature, were examined to evaluate early abundance, distribution, and migration of white whales in Baffin Bay and adjacent waters. Principal sources were trading post journals in the Hudson's Bay Company archives, RCMP game reports, International whaling statistics, logbooks and journals of Scottish whaling voyages, and the professional papers of Thomas Southwell.
