This report presents an overview of physical oceanographic conditions in the Newfoundland & Labrador regions during 2001, with a comparison to long-term average conditions based on historical data. Where possible, the long-term averages are standardized to a base period from 1971 to 2000 in accordance with the convention of the World Meteorological Organization. The information is derived from observations made at oceanographic stations, along standard cross-shelf sections, and during multi-species research vessel surveys. Parameters measured include temperature, salinity, temperature & salinity anomalies, dissolved oxygen saturation, and geostrophic currents.
