Summary:
Over 115 women from Prince Edward Island women served as nurses in the First World War. They were fullblooded, complex women living in a tumultuous time in our history, doing their duty on distant battlefields. Their courage, and the courage of all Canadian nurses, is saluted in a powerful new book about wartime nursing called Those Splendid Girls. It features many wartime nursing photos from private albums, a 35-page biography section, an index, and bibliography. Katherine Dewar taught nursing for 22 years at the P.E.I. School of Nursing. She is co-author of 'This Caring Place,' the history of the Prince County Hospital and School of Nursing. She lives in Charlottetown, P.E.I.
