This ia a free adaptation of a tale from Newfoundland oral tradition, which was first published by Herbert Halpert and J.D.A. Widdowson in their Folktales of Newfoundland, New York, Garland Press, 1996. The tale was told by Albert Heber Keeping in Grand Bank in 1965, who heard it from Billy Quann from Sagona Island, and tape-recorded by Herbert Halpert and Ronald G. Noseworthy.
