Summary:
It was during the First World War that the young Juliette became a governess in the Morrell family at Garsington, a vast change after her Calvinist childhood in Switzerland. There she met all the Bloomsbury characters and, most importantly, the Huxley brothers. Marriage to Julian was to have its darker side and was saved possibly by her latent capacity to develop her own independence, and she recalls the excitements and occasional chaos of those years with affectionate humour.
