In 1968, Krishna Kumaramangalam, known as the Boy Preacher, was strangled to death at the Imperial Hotel in Birchester, England, moments before he was to address his many followers. Now the hotel is about to be demolished, and Detective Superintendent Harriet Martens is tasked with solving the thirty-year-old cold case before the crime scene is gone for good. With scant evidence, and only five of the seven suspects still alive, it’s a no-win assignment. Clearly, Harriet’s new boss has it in for her.
