The Velocipede Handicap revolves mainly around three protagonists: Miss Lillian Richardson, adult cowboy and market researcher in Manhattan; Miss Moppet the love of her life, a cunning little thing with a cat's cradle mind; and Maurice SoulÔe Calhoun, a perfectly elegant interior decorator who basks in the sunlight of his dead Daddy's aphorisms and, somehow, contrives to keep house with Moppet and Lillian.
