Rick becomes the leader of the group. He and the rest of the survivors leave Atlanta, traveling across many miles of hostile territory seeking a safer home. The group meets Tyreese, his daughter and her boyfriend. The group find refuge at Wiltshire Estates, but are forced to leave due to zombie infestation. The group eventually finds shelter at a small farm after Carl is shot. It is discovered that Hershel Greene and his family, the farm's owners, are keeping zombies quarantined in their barn. The group is asked to leave the farm and stumble upon an abandoned prison, which they decide to make their home.
