Summary:
Childhood friends are stuck in their isolated hometown a year after a massive privacy breach tips over society. With everyone’s secrets out in the open from the breach, the people of Beckford want a new beginning in an old place. Jack and Sarah are enjoying a quiet evening together when a man bursts through the front door with some news. For the first time since Jack’s wife, Brooke, arrived in Beckford months ago, someone is coming. An anxious Jack heads to the lookout post as a car sputters to a stop. This fleeing newcomer was trying to upset the balance of power in the city of St. John’s. And people are coming after him. They want him returned to St. John’s. They demand it. Elsewhere in Beckford, the all-female town council is concerned about surviving another winter in their community. Megan is working to amalgamate Beckford with the nearby, smaller community of Gull Cove: pool their resources, band together. Another councillor, Abigail, is concerned about these efforts, as she blames the people of Gull Cove for much of Beckford’s misfortune. As the will to protect Beckford from the people of St. John’s intensifies, and the tension with Gull Cove boils over, it will take everything Jack, Sarah, Megan, the newcomer, and their friends can give to ensure their survival.
