Twine Loft features sayings and stories. The sayings, one-liners, date back as far as the 1950s, when the author was growing up in the island community of Tack's Beach, Placentia Bay, Newfoundland. There, words spoken caught his ear, as have other colourful phrases since. Some of the stories also highlight island life; others recollect happenings since. All are based upon recollections, as factual as human memory allows. The stories are vignettes of a lifetime spent among artists of several genres. Together, the stories and sayings reflect aspects of Newfoundland in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. Newfoundland, a place unique, where the oral tradition no longer holds sway but storytellers linger.
