Summary:
This book tells the story of the treaty, made in 1765, by the British government, (Sir Hugh Palliser, then governor of Newfoundland, acting for the Crown) and the Inuit of southern Labrador from the point of view of a young Inuit girl. Moravian missionary Christian Drachardt acted as translator. The British Navy provided transportation and created detailed historical accounts of these events which unfolded over a few weeks in August. Drachardt spoke to the Inuit about his religion and they told him about Sila, the spirit that is in everything. The publication contains non-fiction sidebars about Southern Labrador Inuit history, house types and spirituality, with a short essay about NunatuKavut.
