By turns both tragic and comic, Learning to Love a River explores unlikely existences in Thunder Bay, Ontario, a small northern city rife with stereotype and misconception. This collection offers a sympathetic but frank accounting for these misconceptions, going beyond the ordinary assumptions about race and class. These poems ask important epistemological and ontological questions, but they also remind us to laugh: at ourselves, at each other, and at absurdity in general.
