Colin Briggs is a man who has given up on life. Nearing the end of a long prison sentence, Colin is transferred to a minimum-security prison. Once there, Colin meets Fergus Wilks, an eccentric 'lifer' who teaches Colin to garden in the hard, infertile soil and much to both men's surprise: the seeds flourish along with the two men's friendship.
