Summary:
Deep Water Creek is his fifth book and takes you back to a very small isolated fishing village on the Coast of Labrador during 1920. Because of its high cliffs and exposed locations Deep Water Creek was known to be one of the most inhospitable places to fish along the coast. Settled by English fishermen in the nineteenth century it remained a year round community until it was resettled to Fox Harbour (St. Lewis) in the late 1930s. This book will give you great insight into the life of a small fishing village in the early twentieth century. Although abandoned for almost one hundred years, today a splendid walking trail can take you from the top of American Hill down to the creek and here you will see the locations of remnants of the once thriving community. Although all the manmade structures are long gone the rhubarb gardens and bluebell beds and fiddleheads grow wild amongst the outlines of where the houses and fish drying flakes used to be. Because of its deep water and headland location the creek is a favourite place for icebergs in early summer.
