Summary:
Thorgrin, the youngest of four brothers, the least loved by his father, hated by his brothers, feels he is different from the others. He dreams of becoming a great warrior, joining the King's men and protecting the Ring from the hordes of creatures that inhabit the other side of the Canyon. When he reaches the age of fourteen and his father forbids him to pass the entry selection to the King's Legion, he rejects his ban and goes on a trip on his own, determined to enter the King's Court by arguing its merits and to be taken seriously.Nevertheless, the King's Court has its own family dramas, power struggles, ambitions, jealousy, violence and betrayals. King MacGil must choose an heir from among his children, and the ancient Dynasty Sword, the source of all his power, has not reacted and is still waiting for the chosen one to show up. Thorgrin arrives without being part of the clan and fights to be accepted and to join the Legion of the King. Thorgrin gradually learns that he has mysterious powers that he does not understand, that he has a special gift and a special destiny. Against all odds, he falls in love with the King's daughter, and as their forbidden relationship develops, he discovers that he has powerful rivals. As he struggles to understand his powers, the king's wizard takes him under his wing and tells him about a mother he has never known, in a faraway land, beyond the Canyon, even in - beyond the land of the Dragons. Before Thorgrin can go on an adventure and become the warrior that he wants to be so badly, he has to finish his training. Nonetheless, this might never happen as he finds himself propelled into the center of royal intrigue and counter-intrigue that could endanger his love and sign his downfall, and that of the entire kingdom with him.
