Summary:
On June 15, 1919, a twin-engine airplane landed in a soft bog on Ireland's west coast after a flight of 16 hours and 28 minutes. Captain John Alcock and Lieutenant Arthur Whitten-Brown had won the race to be the first to fly non-stop across the Atlantic. The race, begun with a challenge made in 1913, was delayed for almost six years by World War I. This book tells the story of the race and the teams that faced great difficulties in preparing for the challenge of crossing the Atlantic.
