Summary:
We humans are a strange breed. On one hand, we can be compassionate and loving. On the other, we can be diabolically evil. We can be brilliantly insightful or utterly clueless. We are too cute by half - sly and devious in obtaining power and wealth, but lacking the foresight to understand the dire, long-term consequences of our actions. Greed and indifference blinds us to the suffering of others and the destruction of Earth. We take what we want from the Earth and each other. We want it all now. Such is the nature of our species. This adventure begins at a remote lodge in the Newfoundland wilderness, a quirky place away from religious and political influences. A cast of characters from around the globe partakes in an intervention to save Earth. They are invited by a British entrepreneur and philanthropist, Gloria Ophelia Dennehy, to participate in a think tank to make recommendations to improve life on Earth and steer humans away from self-destruction. The characters include the pot-smoking genius Bummer Humby, his loyal friend Nellie Kattenbush, the sexy, U.S. political strategist, Erin Coltrane and the charismatic, bible-thumping Pastor Billy Hynd. They are all free to express their views at the think tank without fear of persecution. It is difficult to know who to believe and trust. The balance between human intelligence and stupidity was manageable until the 21st century. Over the past 200 years Earth's human population has risen from 1-billion to 7-billion. Earth stands little chance against this many people if they are bent on its destruction. Irreconcilable differences in political and religious views create constant tension in many regions around the world. Further, technology is so powerful Earth can be rendered uninhabitable by pressing a few buttons. But who will press those buttons? A third world despot? The leader of a military powerhouse? An obscure terrorist organization? Humans face extinction if we continue to ignore the dangers around us. One misstep and it will all be over. Something must be done to pull us back from the brink. Many people hope and believe God will intervene - a simple click of Her fingers and we will all awaken in Utopia. However, God has not interfered on Earth since She created the universe 13.7 billion years ago. She has chosen instead to observe Earth like a child observes an ant farm. Watching humans has been God's favorite pastime, but She now realizes She must try to restore the balance between good and evil. If She intervenes too much, the spontaneity and wonder of humans will end. If She intervenes too little, our extinction is imminent. She hopes the think tank participants will help humans find a new path, but that path is littered with deception. The right outcome is far from assured. One thing is certain: Before the end of this century life on Earth will be forever changed.
