Summary:
Henry describes his experiences among the Indians and Canadiens in sharp, clean prose. Particularly memorable is his eyewitness account of the capture of Fort Michilimackinac; the Ojibwa slaughtered the British garrison after entering the fort on the pretext of chasing a lacrosse ball, and Henry narrowly escaped with his life. Henry's comprehensive, detailed and occasionally blood-chilling narrative is among the most engaging and best written of the fur traders' records. The account has become an adventure classic and is still considered one of the best descriptions of Indian life at the time of Henry’s travels.
