A Voyage to Newfoundland was written by a French geologist and oceanographer who spent six months aboard the La Clorinde, a French naval vessel patrolling the cod fishery on the French Shore of Newfoundland. Now a rare, out-of-print work, Julien Thoulet's 1891 chronicle of Newfoundland and its coasts is a travelogue of observations, impressions, and comments written in the great tradition of nineteenth-century French travel literature. Scott Jamieson's translation is fully annotated with explanations of obscure technical and historical references.
