Summary:
The Main River is home to the only known old-growth boreal forests in the world, and is one of the last wild areas in the province. The river hosts a rare population of Atlantic salmon, and is famed for its fly fishing. Main passes through a variety of geography that is comparable to other longer rivers in other regions of Canada. It begins in the heart of the Long Range mountains, courses through the tundra-like barrens, forests, canyons and grasslands, them empties into the North Atlantic at the community of Sop's Arm. The Main is one of the Newfoundland's greatest recreational resources.
