Summary:
Sgt. Winston Windflower is a long way from his Cree home in Northern Alberta. His work as an officer with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police has taken him to the very eastern tip of Canada where much to his surprise, he has found that he really enjoys the laidback lifestyle of the East Coast. He has the respect of the citizens, a deep appreciation of the food and culture, and the love of a great woman. But Windflower has discovered that neither the weather nor the ocean stays calm for very long here. There are secrets and intrigues lurking just below the surface. The deeper you search the more disturbing things can become. This story starts with the mysterious death of a young woman, a well-liked, champion rower, but quickly grows in intensity to involve international intrigue and corruption at the highest levels of society. Along the way Windflower's trust in justice and his superiors is tested. So too are his ideas about this place and its history. His is drawn back to his own ideals and his own culture and must dive deeply into uncharted waters in order to find the truth. He discovers what all explorers have found throughout history, that the answers are never found floating on top, they are always far beneath the surface.
